Agape Shelter, Food Pantry sponsoring garage sale, dinner

STEUBENVILLE – The Agape Shelter and Food Pantry sponsors a garage sale on Saturdays from 8 a.m. and a dinner sale from 11 a.m.

The event will take place at the Agape Multipurpose Field at the corner of South Sixth and Slack streets. Supplier tables will be available.

Brilliant Lions Club members hear report on blood drive

BRILLIANT – A report on the American Red Cross blood drive hosted by the Brilliant Lions Club at Wells Township Recreation / Senior Center was presented by President Butch Ford at the recent club meeting.

There were 18 participants adding to the blood drive, it was noted. Ford, John Gooosman, Ralph Nickoson and Tom Connell were at the helm.

A dinner was held with David Porter giving the invocation.

The club no longer collects bottle caps at this time. All clubs in the district did this during the winter and spring months.

Plans for the annual late summer picnic have been made for September 2 at the Wells Township picnic area. There will be four committees calling members for different dishes.

A donation was made to the Touch Down Club.

Lamont McCoy briefed the club on the unveiling of the Jefferson County Veterans Wall at Friendship Park.

Ron Brandfass and Jim Quinn won door prizes.

Saint-Joseph Workers Parish

organize a block party on Sunday

WEIRTON – St. Joseph the Worker Parish will be holding a block party from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

It will be held at the St. Joseph the Worker Campus on Michael Way, Weirton.

Bingo will take place from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, and there will be a dunk tank at 2:30 pm The festivities will include food trucks, a DJ, inflatables, a cornhole tournament and basket draws.

The golf race on August 2 to benefit the Cancer Dietary Initiative

STEUBENVILLE – The Cancer Diet Initiative for Local Cancer Patients on Treatment is recruiting sponsors and golfers for its annual golf event which will be combined this year with the Presbyterian Open Golf Outing of First Westminster Presbyterian Church.

It will take place on August 2 at the Spring Hills Golf Course in East Springfield.

“Although we are combining the event, all proceeds will go to the Cancer Dietary Initiative”, note a letter recently posted to generate participation and interest.

Golf racing has always been one of CDI’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Sponsorships of holes are $ 125 with checks made payable to Cancer Dietary Initiative, c / o Chris Hyland, 86532 North Bay Road, Scio OH 43988. Company name, logo and payment must be sent by July 18 to Hyland mailing address or e-mailed to [email protected].

CDI is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit that provides substantial nutritional support to cancer patients in the area while undergoing treatment. “Our physician-referred patients suffer from both nutritional and financial challenges and must choose between buying food and paying monthly bills, as well as dealing with the challenges associated with a cancer diagnosis,” notes Hyland, director of CDI.

“In this year alone, we have helped cancer patients in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania throughout the pandemic. Patients receive food items during our distribution, which takes place on the third Saturday of each month in our pantry, located in a space donated by First Westminster Presbyterian Church in Steubenville ”, she added.

The funds generated by the golf event will be used only to stock the shelves with food items.

Quartets wishing to play should confirm their attendance by Saturday by calling First Westminster Presbyterian Church at (740) 282-4591. The cost is $ 45 per player and $ 20 for team mulligans.

Registration is at 8:15 am with a shotgun departure at 9:30 am. Dinner and prizes are at the end of the event.

Programming of the summer concert series

for saturday is announced

STEUBENVILLE – On Saturday 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Sycamore Youth Center at 301 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, will present live and in concert the winners of last year’s Valley’s Got Talent Faire May of Wheeling, 2018 Valley’s Got Talent group winners Hannah and Celia Mergen from Wintersville and harmonies from vocal group Make A Joyful Noise, with Dani Carroll.

Sy’s Cafe will be open during the concert and will offer high quality coffee and tea as well as baked goods by donation.

Local youth from the Sycamore Leadership Program will work at Sy’s Cafe to learn valuable workforce negotiation skills.

Visitors can feel free to stop for 10 minutes or stay the full two hours. Hannah and Celia will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. Make May from 6:50 p.m. to 7:40 p.m. and make a happy noise from 7:40 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
