Governor Greg Abbott’s Texas Concert Safety Working Group yesterday held its third meeting and first face-to-face meeting at Global Life Park in Arlington. Hosted by the Texas Rangers organization, more than 45 public safety and industry experts, as well as expert contributors and local authorities, came together to discuss best practices for concert safety.

During the meeting, the working group focused on topics such as unified command and control, crowd dynamics and local permissions, including ways to create consistency in permissions and responding to statewide. The task force also restricted its discussion and began developing specific recommendations and strategies for ensuring concert safety, which will be included in a final report to Governor Abbott.

Governor Abbott launched the task force on November 10 in response to the Astroworld festival tragedy in Houston that killed 10 spectators and injured more than 300. The task force is chaired by Texas Music Office director Brendon Anthony, and consists of experts in security, law enforcement, fire fighters, state agencies, music industry leaders and others. The working group will organize several roundtables to analyze concert safety and develop ways to improve safety at live musical events in Texas. Following these meetings, the working group will produce a report of recommendations and strategies to ensure the safety of the concerts and protect the spectators.
