Focus on some musicians preparing for the WFYSO Christmas concert

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX / KJTL) – Before you know it, Christmas will be here, but even sooner, the Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra Christmas Concert will get you into the holiday spirit!

With over 60 children from 20 schools in the region, WFYSO not only spreads Christmas cheer, but also gives many young musicians the opportunity to perform like the pros!

It seems like every musician has their own way of starting out, like Ava Rasmussen.

“This guy came in and everyone liked trying an instrument like in our school, and I tried it and it was really cool, but the reason I liked it was the vibe of it. , and I just started playing after that it was really cool, ”said Rasmussen.

And Hallie Watson.

“When I was really little, probably six or something, I heard this song on the radio and it had a cello in it and I was like ‘oh that sounds really good’ so I went home. house and talked to my mom and us I’ve never had one and then a few years ago I was like, “I’m just going to fall apart and buy one”, so I have it. done and here I am, ”Watson said.

Until the youngest member of the entire Youth Symphony Orchestra.

“It started when I was five, but I literally just joined the orchestra this year,” said Preettika Sharma.

Sharma, the third-grader who just celebrated her ninth birthday, had a unique reason to get involved in WFYSO.

“Well, why did I want to play? So that I could sit down, my dad made me stand up, so I was like ‘I want to sit down,’ ”Sharma said.

And so far: “It’s been really good,” Sharma said.

So now, with the fall concert already under his belt …

“I think it sounded really good, even though I was the smallest there,” Sharma said.

Sharma is ready to go again, mainly because it hasn’t bothered her too much, she has some stage experiences.

“Sometimes I get a little nervous when I go on stage because I haven’t been in a while, in my youth I always went because I was into dancing,” said Sharma.

Thus, each member continues to acquire more experience and skills every day.

“I never thought I would be this good, I hoped I would be this good,” Sharma said.

And just like their reasons for choosing an instrument, there are plenty of reasons they love it.

“I just like to see them happy, especially the little ones who say ‘I want to play now’, that just encourages them to play or wants them to listen, stuff like that,” Watson said.

And again, this concert will take place on December 17th, in addition to attending for free at MSU’s Akin Auditorium!
