Let the Mitski rebirth begin.
The singer-songwriter marked her comeback on Tuesday with a new single and a new music video, titled “Working for the Knife”, as well as the announcement of a spring 2022 tour in North America and Europe. Although Mitski released a song for the horror film “The Turning”, collaborated with Allie X, and provided the soundtrack for the graphic novel “This Is Where We Fall” in 2020, “Working for the Knife” is his first major release since his 2018 album âBe the Cowboy.
On heavy synth instrumentation, “Working for the Knife” seems to be a dark reflection on growing up and falling victim to the non-stop work culture inherent in capitalist societies. The track was produced by Patrick Hyland, longtime Mitski collaborator.
“It’s about going from a kid with a dream to an adult with a job and feeling that somewhere along the way you’ve been left behind,” Mitski said of the trail in a statement. . “It’s being faced with a world that doesn’t seem to recognize your humanity, and sees no way out.”
The movie clip for the song, directed by Zia Anger with cinematography by Ashley Conner, was shot at The Egg performance venue in Albany, NY. artist exploiting his deepest emotions for the entertainment of others.
Along with the release of âWorking for the Knife,â Mitski also announced a North American and European tour, marking his first concerts since his concerts at Central Park SummerStage in September 2019.
