The sounds of the holidays will once again fill Wheeling Park High School as musical instruments and voices come together for the 26th Festival of Sound.

Three performances are on the program – Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. – all at the JB Chambers Performing Arts Center on the Wheeling Park High campus

School.

Ensembles that perform on weekends include the Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Symphony Winds, and Steel Drum Orchestra. The Red and Blue Orchestras, as well as the Concert Choir, Young Patriots, Voices of Freedom, and men’s and women’s ensembles will also be present during the show.

Parts of the show will incorporate the 350 musicians of what is known as the Patriot Ensemble. Members of Wheeling Park’s 41-time State Champion Speech and Debate Team will also serve as emcees.

“We literally have students in four or five different performance groups,” said choir director Christie Curley. “It’s a huge level of commitment and musicality.”

What makes the weekend even more special is that the event is back after last year’s hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Festival of Sound is going to be a new experience for half of our students who haven’t had a typical school year,” said choir director Joyce Jingle. “Last year was the first time in over two and a half decades that the Festival of Sound had not taken place. We can’t wait to go back to our tradition and make some great holiday music together. “

Tickets are now sold online at http://wphswv.booktix.com/ and also at the main offices of Wheeling Park High School and Ohio County Schools at 2203 National Rd. In Elm Grove. Selling tickets online will incur minimal convenience fees. In-person ticket sales will run from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today, while online ticket sales will continue (if available) until each hour of the show. The number of places for each show is limited and corresponds to general admission. The doors will open one hour before each show.
