First, we must recognize that music can transcend time and space and connect people across generations.

But at the same time, there’s something special about connecting with a song at a certain time or place. And the bonds you share with other people who have the same experience are also something special!

So no matter when you grew up, there’s music that means something to you because of who you were when you heard it. And no matter when you grew up, some of these artists are coming to a concert hall near you in August!

Here’s a quick rundown of this month’s gigs that might relate to a particular part of your story, whether you’re considering retirement or wondering if it’ll even be an option for you when you’re old enough:

Boomers

One of the best things about what we think of as baby boomer music is that it’s not just a nostalgic trip: artists from that era are now classicsgenre-defining artists who have left a huge impact (and often a huge playlist to go along with it).

  • Santana and Earth, Wind and Fire

6 p.m. on August 6 at Hersheypark Stadium. Tickets cost between $24.75 and $139.50.

7:30 p.m. on August 20 at Hersheypark Stadium. Tickets cost between $22.25 and $139.50.

7 p.m. on August 21 at the Hollywood Casino at the Penn National Race Course. Tickets cost between $20 and $79 and up.

Generation X

Generation X’s musical tastes were all about defying convention or approaching classics with a new sensibility. Their legacy is that of iconoclastic artists who pushed the boundaries of their time.

  • Rick Springfield, Men at Work and John Waite

7 p.m. on August 20 at the Hollywood Casino at the Penn National Race Course. Tickets are $29, $59 and $69.

7:30 p.m. August 6 and 7 at the American Music Theater. Tickets are $59, $69 and $79

Millennials

Like Generation X, Millennials were looking for something new – which is why alternative music took off as we came of age. The genre lines have now become a bit more blurred, as more and more diffuse options have become available.

3 p.m. Aug. 20 at The Vineyard & Brewery in Hershey. Tickets cost between $39.50 and $125.

3 p.m. Aug. 27 at The Vineyard & Brewery in Hershey. Tickets cost between $34.50 and $125.

7:30 p.m. on August 26 at the Appell Center. Tickets cost between $47 and $63.88.
