The Herb Geller Clarinet Ensemble offers a free live concert

The Herb Geller PREformance Memorial Scholarship’s first in-person concert of the year will feature the Geller Tribute Clarinet Ensemble in an eclectic program of music from familiar composers at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 25 at Zion Episcopal Church, 140 W Liberty St.

The repertoire includes well-known pieces such as “Overture to Carmen” by Bizet, “Alleluia” by Mozart in “Exultate Jubilate”, “Fugue in G minor” by Bach, “The Cascades” by Joplin, ” Tchaikovsky’s Scherzo ”, Ravel’s“ Pavane ”and other popular songs such as“ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Chicago, Fly Me to the Moon, Amazing Grace and America the Beautiful ”.

The group is conducted by native Roman John Flaver Jr., a graduate of Temple University, Catholic University, former member of the US Band, Washington, DC, the Syracuse Symphony and the Lake Placid Center Orchestra. Flaver is also artistic director of the Herb Geller Memorial Tribute Band and is the son of the late John Flaver Sr., legendary clarinetist and Roman teacher.

The Geller Tribute Clarinet Ensemble is made up mostly of native Roman musicians, many of whom received their graduate studies from some of the best music colleges and universities. Members include Anne Gannon, Jeff Geller, Terry Ann Gerber, Dr Jennifer Lavesa-Cesana, Christine Labuszewski, Dr Thomas McKay, Ralph Mirabelli, Colleen O’Neil and Nancy DeLutis Rank.

Free will donations will be accepted at the event for the Geller Scholarships, which has so far donated $ 2,750 to five student musicians pursuing college music studies.
