Feet were tapping and the beat was rocking until big band-era standards, Dixieland and more on Monday night, Sept. 15, when the swing took over the Pasadena Senior Center.

The latest in the Senior Center’s summer concert series – but certainly not the least – brought cool music to audiences on a sweltering Labor Day, courtesy of the Great American Swing Band.

Yeah. It was hot. But cool music rang through the center on Monday night, whether it was foxtrot or East Coast Swing.

This particular musical series had a special meaning at the Senior Center. The summer series’ consistent live music was back after two years of “zooming” during the coronavirus pandemic. This year brought back what is a nearly 40-year tradition, said Annie Laskey, director of events at the Pasadena Senior Center.

“It’s just magical to have people hearing live music again,” she said. “That’s something Zoom can’t do. Watch the musicians. The energy of the audience feeds the band. There’s this give and take.
