Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu called on world leaders to work towards equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to people around the world, especially in the world’s poorest countries.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke at the Global Citizen Live event held yesterday to celebrate healthcare workers who are on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to give the priority to the equity of vaccines among the whole of its population.

Global Citizen Live is part of a one-in-a-generation day of unity with artists, celebrities and world leaders coming together to create change and make an impact on climate and poverty.

Previously, Global Citizen Co-Founder and CEO Hugh Evans said, “As a global community we are in a race against time and the key to getting back together is the vaccine. We need to build confidence in the vaccine in the United States and around the world, and encourage people to get vaccinated as quickly as possible. There is a light at the end of this tunnel, but getting everyone, everywhere, no matter who they are or where they come from, vaccinated is essential to ensuring the end of this pandemic around the world. We must all unite to get back on the path to eradicating extreme poverty. ”
