Rock legends Kiss suffer a major setback when they fly the Australian flag at a concert in Austria: ‘Americans and their Geography!’

American band Kiss ended a concert in Vienna on Sunday with a cultural blunder by thanking their Austrian fans with an image of the Australian flag.

The glam rock legends ended the show by projecting the Kiss logo – featuring the colors and symbols of the Australian flag, including the Union Jack and the Southern Cross – onto a giant screen behind the stage alongside text : “Kiss Loves You Vienna”.

The nine thousand Kiss fans in attendance burst into laughter when the message appeared during the final moments of the concert, reports Today Times Live.

An unamused Austrian fan later tweeted: “Americans and Geography!”

The accident happened during the European leg of Kiss’ The End of the Road world tour.

On Tuesday, no one from the band’s side came forward to explain how the confusion over the flags arose.

One tweeted: “When I was a kid my dad had a T-shirt that said ‘There are no kangaroos in Austria’ and how many people would stop to correct it. “

Another added: “I had the same T-shirt and experience on a trip through Europe.” Austrians usually got the joke right away (even though “Austria” is spelled very differently in German), but people from other countries would stop me.

A third fan poked fun at Kiss’ mistake, tweeting, “The Commonwealth of Austria.”

The End of the Road Tour is billed as the last Australian tour for the American rock band, which formed in 1973.

The current line-up includes Gene Simmons on bass, Paul Stanley on vocals and guitar, drummer Eric Singer and lead guitarist Tommy Thayer.

Kiss will begin their shows Down Under with three shows at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena in August.
