Olivia Rodrigo surprised fans by bringing out Alanis Morissette on Tuesday night in her first of two shows at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.

The duo sang Morissette’s 1995 hit “You Oughta Know” from her debut album “Jagged Little Pill”, with Morissette taking the first verse and Rodrigo singing the second. “It was a slap / How quickly I was replaced / And you think of me when you fuck her?” Rodrigo sang while dancing with Morissette before launching into the song’s famous chorus together.

“It really is the craziest thing that has ever happened to me,” Rodrigo said after the performance. “She’s such an angel.”

Rodrigo mirrored Morissette’s early career somewhat, achieving both meteoric fame in their late teens and being open about heartbreak in their writing. The two connected on these topics, even interviewing for a Rolling Stone cover last year. Morissette isn’t the first guest Rodrigo has brought on his tour – in Toronto, Avril Lavigne joined the 19-year-old on stage to sing his 2002 hit “Complicated.”

During Tuesday night’s show, Rodrigo also spoke about the elementary school shooting in Texas. “Although I’m so excited to be here tonight, I’m so, so devastated by the shooting that happened in Texas today. We should never have to worry about our safety or our lives in places dedicated to our learning and growth.I am so heartbroken that this is the reality we live in and that we need stronger gun control laws.

Rodrigo is in the midst of his very first tour after releasing his debut album ‘Sour’ in May last year. Catapulting the success of her debut single “Driver’s License,” “Sour” went triple platinum and won the singer three Grammy awards in April.
