MSC OPAS has announced that five Broadway musicals will arrive at the Rudder Auditorium for the 2021-2022 season.

Three of the five… RENT, Fiddler on the Roof and Carole King’s musical Beautiful… were supposed to be here last year before being canceled by the pandemic. The other Broadway shows are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a new musical based on the movie An Officer and a Gentleman.

Tickets go on sale Monday morning for the musicals and an overnight concert featuring six world-class musicians synchronized with video projections of classic cartoons and contemporary animation.

And tickets remain available for concerts previously announced by Michael Cavanaugh, J. Robert Spencer (7,000 miles from Broadway), The Kingdom Choir and The Barricade Boys.

More information on all performances is on mscopas.org.

MSC OPAS press release:

OPAS is pleased to announce that Broadway is returning to the Rudder Auditorium with five major musicals slated for the 2021-2022 “Let’s Get Together” season. After what will have been nearly two years without a performance of the Broadway Nationwide Tour at Texas A&M University, blockbuster musicals are off to a good start with Broadway family hit Charlie and Roald Dahl’s Chocolate Factory (November 9-10 • Sponsored by Blue Cloche).

The New Year brings even more programming to Broadway. In 2022, OPAS welcomes Beautiful – The Carole King Musical (February 4-5 • Sponsored by Aggieland Credit Union), RENT’s 25th Anniversary Tour (February 16-17), a brand new musical based on the hit film An Officer and A Gentleman (March 8-9) and Fiddler on the Roof (March 28-29 • Sponsored by Brookshire Brothers).

In addition to the Broadway lineup, OPAS is also announcing a performance on the Intimate Gatherings series (sponsored by Comfort Keepers). The newly added program to this series, presented at the Rudder Theater, is a one-night-only concert by The Queen’s Cartoonists on March 24. Hailing from Queens, New York, The Queen’s Cartoonists is made up of six world-class musicians giving a concert filled with classic cartoon music and contemporary animation – synchronized with video projections from the original films!

OPAS Executive Director Anne Black explains: “In the spring of 2020, the pandemic struck just before our three big musicals hit Rudder as part of the ‘Tapestry’ season – Beautiful, Fiddler on the Roof and RENT. The buzz centered around these musicals was positively palpable. We are therefore delighted that these three musicals are back on the program. She continues: “But that’s not all. After more than a year without Broadway shows, three musicals just aren’t enough. That’s why we also have two new musicals in the season, both based on movies, An Officer and a Gentleman and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The MSC box office will begin taking ticket orders for subscription packages and single tickets on Monday, September 20 at 9 am (979-845-1234 • boxoffice.tamu.edu). Packages include a build-it-yourself Broadway four-pack starting at just $ 110.

Tickets for previously announced concerts of Michael Cavanaugh, J. Robert Spencer (7000 Miles to Broadway), The Kingdom Choir and The Barricade Boys are already on sale at the box office. For more information on all OPAS performances and ticket options, please visit www.MSCOPAS.org.

Black sums up: “Today more than ever, the purchase of tickets and donations help secure the future of OPAS. And remember, this is our 49th season. Wait and see what we have in store for the next OPAS 50th anniversary season!
