Harrisonburg vying for $90,000 grant for outdoor music concert series

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance (HDR) announced that downtown Harrisonburg is in the running for a $90,000 grant to host a three-year free outdoor music series, but it has need your help.

HDR encourages the community to vote for Harrisonburg through September 21 to help the city stay in contention for the Levitt AMP [Your City] Scholarships.

The Levitt AMP [Your City] The grants are a multi-year matching grant opportunity created by the Levitt Foundation to serve small and medium-sized cities with populations up to 250,000. The nonprofits will receive a total matching grant of $90,000 over three years to produce a free outdoor concert series featuring a diverse lineup of professional musicians.

Harrisonburg is one of 36 communities in the United States that have advanced to the voting phase and hopes to qualify as one of the top 20 finalists at the end of the public voting phase.

“This grant would allow us to have a great stage, professional sound, nationally touring bands and ASL performers to help make these shows accessible to everyone,” said HDR Executive Director Andrea Dono. . “It’s also exciting to have the opportunity to ‘test’ the grass field behind City Hall where Build Our Park is working on creating a public park. We can reimagine how this space could be used by experiencing it in a new way.

The public can vote online at levitt.org/vote or by text to 866-AMP-2023 (866-267-2023) with the keyword HBURG. The Levitt Foundation will then review the top proposals and select up to 10 Levitt AMP Grant recipients, which will be announced on November 15, 2022.
