Above: This week’s highlights begin with Saturday’s Native Garden tour at the library and end with a library ‘4th of July Parade’ for children next Friday.   • Visits to native gardens (10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.) @ Southborough Library and Beals Preserve: The Open Spaces Preservation Commission will be hosting tours through two of its native gardens. The gardens are planted with species identified as important to support native pollinators at risk. The tour begins at the library then moves to Beals Preserve. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Cooking Book Club (1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Library Lawn: You can select a dish from The Milk Street Cookbook and bring it to be enjoyed with others. Please email your selected dish to Marianna at [email protected]. New participants are encouraged and all ages and partners are welcome. For more details, see the dedicated post.

  • Walking group for seniors (8:30 a.m.) @ Trottier Middle School Outdoor Track: Free walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center, see bulletin. Walkers usually walk for an hour, but go on for as long as you want. The location is a loop so feel free to join late.
  • Stretch Break classes for seniors (10:15 a.m.) @ Southborough Senior Center: For weekly class details, see the newsletter.
  • Mourning group (1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Senior Center: The Bereavement Group is a monthly support group for people aged 50 and over. To register to join the group, please call Leslie Chamberlin, RN at 508-229-4453.
  • Youth Writing Club Reception (3.30pm – 4.30pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: A reception for young writers who took part in the virtual club this spring. They can meet and show their writing. Snacks and a positive atmosphere will be there. Club members’ writings (with or without illustrations) will be left in the library for patrons to view in the children’s room the following month.

  • Bodybuilding classes for seniors (8:30 a.m.) @ zoom: Pre-registration required. For more details on semi-weekly classes, see the bulletin.
  • Advanced Tai Chi for Seniors (9:45 a.m.) @ zoom: Pre-registration required. For more details on semi-weekly classes, see the bulletin.
  • Puppet show with Tom Knight (11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.) @ Southborough Library Lawn: Tom will entertain with music and puppets. This event is open to all families with children from 2 to 8 years old and siblings. Registration is mandatory. For more details, see the related post.
  • Bridge (12:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For more details, contact the Seniors Center at 508-229-4453.
  • knitting club (1:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Senior Center: Knitters, welcoming new members. For more details, contact the Seniors Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Tuesday Technical Time (4:00pm – 5:00pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Need help with technology? Library staff and teen volunteers will do their best to help you. Bring questions about e-books and e-resources. This is a fall event; no registration necessary. Sessions are limited to a maximum of 1 hour.
  • Poetry workshop (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library: Participants are asked to bring five copies of their original poetry and distribute to the group. Someone will read the poem and the group will provide supportive comments. (If you don’t have a poem, come anyway! We’re always interested in your ideas.)

  • Crafternoon: Creative Journal (4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Library, ground floor: For ages 8 and up. Pre-registration is mandatory and participation is limited. Using media supplies and prompts, children can start a journal to use at home on the topic of recognizing gratitude in their lives. For more details, see the related post.
  • Southborough Summer Concert Series (6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) @ Neary School Outdoor Stage near the Tennis Courts, 53 Parkerville Road: Free Southborough Recreation family-friendly concerts with lawn games. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Bring your lunch or buy one on site. Headlining : hit the bus. Scheduled Food Truck: potato. For more details, see the related post.

  • Rotary Interaction Club (7.30pm – 8.30pm) @ Southborough Library, ground floor: Take action, build international understanding and make new friends around the world. Interact clubs bring young people ages 12-18 together to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be really fun.

  • dull men’s club (10:00 a.m.) @ zoom: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome. For more details, see dedicated post.
  • 4th of July Parade (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) @ Southborough Library: Participants gather in the Children’s Room. Dress in red, white and blue and use our flags, noisemakers and accessories. Refreshments will be served after the parade. All ages, no registration required. (Sponsored by the Friends of Southborough Library.) For details, see related article.
