A concert featuring “must-see sets of world icons” that was rejected last month by Southampton city officials instead received Suffolk County approval to be held on August 29 at the airport. Gabreski at Westhampton Beach.

A website for the concert, the Palm Tree Music Festival, says Norwegian DJ Kygo and manager Myles Shear will host the full-day event featuring artists Zedd and Gryffin.

The Suffolk legislature voted 18-0 on July 27 to approve a resolution allowing county executive Steve Bellone to enter into a licensing deal with organizer Squadra Entertainment.

Southampton Town rejected the event company’s request last month to host the festival on Nova’s Ark property in Water Mill, the site of a controversial Chainsmokers concert in 2020, citing traffic, safety and other issues .

Tickets available range from $ 450 for general admission to $ 50,000 for a private stage viewing package, according to the website. It would be limited to 2,500 participants and 500 cars, depending on the county.

“The Palm Tree Music Festival is a one-of-a-kind, intimate festival experience, bringing the dream of the tropics to lush locations around the world, starting with the Hamptons,” the website says. Hosted by Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew, the full-day event captures the unmatched feeling of a summer in paradise, majestic beach vibes, must-see world icon sets, food and beverage offerings, unique brand activations and exclusive VIP experiences.

Representatives from Squadra could not be reached for comment.

The legislature’s resolution says the entertainment industry was hit hard during the pandemic and Squadra had already invested money with local businesses such as food vendors to host the concert. He says Suffolk County “is looking to help promote local businesses that support the arts and entertainment industries.”

A Bellone spokesperson did not comment on the deal.

Southampton City Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said the airport, which unlike Nova’s Ark is near Sunrise Highway and not in a residential area, was a better place for a big concert. He also said he didn’t think the event organizers needed Southampton Town’s approval to host the event.

“The event brings 500 cars, which is less than the number of vehicles parked there for the US Open [golf tournament]”he wrote in a text message.” I think this is a much more appropriate location than the property they originally chose at Water Mill. “

Southampton City Police Chief Steven Skrynecki said the county sheriff’s department would oversee the festival and the city would help if needed.

Last summer’s Chainsmokers concert attracted considerable attention after Governor Andrew M. Cuomo repeatedly berated city officials for not doing more to control the crowds and the concert was the subject of investigated by the state health department. People had been allowed to assemble in a section near the stage where masks were not enforced.

Concert promoters In the Know Experiences and Invisible Noise were fined $ 20,000 by the state for the July 25, 2020 concert for failing to follow state COVID-19 guidelines.
