The arts community of St. Tammany Parish continues to celebrate Christmas on the North Shore with gifts of seasonal music, dancing and live theater on several local stages.

The Southern Youth Ballet will present its 24th anniversary production of “The Nutcracker” with three performances on December 10 and 11 at Slidell. It’s all part of an old-fashioned Christmas at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where there will also be refreshments, ornaments, Christmas carols and special “The Night Before Christmas” readings.

The performances take place on Friday, December 10 at 7 p.m. and the following Saturday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., all at 360, boul. church. General admission tickets are $ 25 on Eventbrite.com

On December 8, the United States Marine Corps Reserve Band will perform at the Harbor Center at 7 p.m. upon their return from another annual holiday concert, this one courtesy of the Friends of the Harbor Center. And on December 19, The Louisiana Brass, with Erik Morales, will perform in the Third Sunday Concert series at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington.

This will be the sixth annual performance of “A Christmas Brass Spectacular” at 120 S. New Hampshire St. Church Doors open at 4:30 pm and concert begins at 5 pm. The concert is free and open to the public.

The brass ensemble will perform traditional and contemporary Christmas music written for brass. Members include Morales on trumpet; Lacy Blackledge, trumpet; Chris Germany, French horn; Bill Bischoff, trombone; and Chasse Duplantis, tuba. The selections will include popular Christmas carols and other seasonal selections including “Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem”, “Angels We Have Heard on High”, “Gesu Bambino”, “We Need A Little Christmas” and ” Do You Hear What I hear? “

MIAM MIAM: The 30 by Ninety Theater at 880 Lafayette St. in Mandeville presents the last weekend of its third annual “A Very Merry Christmas Spectacular”, a performance of song and dance by local artists of all ages until December 12 . BABIES: Playmakers Theater presents “Babes in Toyland” for a final long weekend from December 10th to 12th. It’s the classic 1903 story of a young girl waking up in the Kingdom of Toyland, where she and her family team up to overthrow the evil Barnaby. Directed by Jennifer Patterson. HO HO WHAT!: “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”, a musical, is scheduled at Slidell Little Theater until December 19th. Based on the book by Jahanna Beecham and Malcolm Helgartner, it’s the story of the worst family of children in the history of the world, and what it took to see the world through their eyes. ELF: “This Christmas” is a holiday musical for the whole family that will be performed for one final weekend on the Cutting Edge Theater stage from December 10-12. YEAH ! Playmakers Theater will open the new year with a play based on Agatha Christie’s debut novel, “The Mysterious Affair at Styles,” from January 22 to February 21. 6. The story begins when an injured Hastings is sent home after World War I to recuperate at his friend’s magnificent Styles Court estate. TO CLEAN: The next Keep Abita Beautiful garbage cleanup event will be held on December 11 in the Nursery Subdivision located next to Abita Lumber on La. 36. The event begins at 9 am. Registration and supplies are located at 72479 Jasmine Street. After the cleanup is over at noon, volunteers will gather for kidney beans and rice. DIRECTION: On December 8, the St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce presents “Leadercast St. Tammany 2021,” a full day of internationally renowned speakers broadcast from Cincinnati to locations around the world, including St. Tammany. The show runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Movie Tavern Northshore, 201 NUS 190, Covington, where attendees will meet in person to watch the show. (A virtual option is also available.) This year’s theme is “Shift,” and its lessons are that change is constant and nothing ever goes quite as planned. Speakers for the event will be practitioners who have successfully navigated their own personal and professional changes. NEW FRIENDS: The Slidell Newcomers Club will be hosting their next General Membership Luncheon on December 8th at the Pinewood Plantation. HOLIDAY TIME: Leadership St. Tammany will be holding its Alumni Foundation holiday on December 11, the group’s first in-person event since March 2020. The 7-10 p.m. gala will be held at Benedict’s Plantation in Mandeville. The $ 30 ticket includes appetizers, okra and a cheese, meats and fruit grazing station, coffee and tea, and a free cocktail.
