Celebrity Series of Boston Announces Winter 2022 Concerts

Boston’s Celebrity series has announced its winter 2022 lineup. The series will run from January 26 to March 27, 2022.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus only on the vocal works.

Bass-baritone Dashon Burton and pianist Lindsay Garritson make their Celebrity Series debut opening the concert series. The headlining concert will air live on January 19 at 8 p.m. and can be viewed until January 26. The duo will present “a uniquely American program”. The set includes ‘Across Five Chapters’ – ‘The Shoulders of Giants’, ‘Black Like Me: Songs of the Diaspora’, ‘The Makers’, ‘Langston and the Masters’ and ‘The Modern’. Also featured are works by John Jacob Niles, Kurt Weill, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Paul Bowles, Margaret Bonds, William Grant Still, Marques LA Garrett and Moses Hogan.

The next virtual concert will feature baritone Benjamin Appl and pianist James Baillieu performing Schubert’s “Winterreise” on January 26 at 8 p.m. The show will be on demand from January 26 to February 1.

Soprano Susanna Phillips, pianist Myra Huang and clarinetist Anthony McGill will perform at GBH Calderwood Studio (1 Guest Street, Boston) on March 13 at 3 p.m. Their program includes “The Shepherd on the Rock” by Schubert, “Chavah’s Daughters Speak” by James Lee III, “Romance” by William Grant Still and Schubert’s Sonata in A minor D. 821 “Arpeggione”. This performance also has a streaming option from March 13-19.

As of January 15, the Celebrity series has updated its Covid policies. Now all ticket holders over the age of 12 must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19. Negative test results will no longer be accepted. Masks must be worn at all times during live performances.
