Aerosmith returned to the stage on Sunday (September 4, 2022) after Steven Tyler’s treatment at a rehab facility this spring for an undisclosed addiction. The gig marked the band’s first time performing since February 15, 2020, a remarkable two-and-a-half-year span. Their 2022 comeback was originally scheduled to take place in Europe but was canceled due to the pandemic. Their first date in the United States was scheduled for June 17 but was delayed when Tyler entered a treatment program in May. Their 19-song set in Bangor, Maine served as a warm-up gig for their Sept. 8 performance at Fenway Park in Boston, which will be followed by a series of shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas.

The band performed many of their favorite classic rock songs. (Watch several below.) The first song, at the Maine Saving Amphitheater, was, appropriately, “Back in the Saddle.”

“Please welcome to the stage… from Boston, Mass… Aerosmith…! »

The 2022 shows mark the delayed celebration of Aerosmith‘s 50th anniversary of their formation.

In a June 2021 interview, the band’s Brad Whitford said he doubted the band would perform again. “I have my doubts that Aerosmith is really coming back at this point because age becomes a real factor,” he said, as transcribed by Blabbermouth.net.
